My Unexpected Phone Call with a Scammer today.
Today, I had an intriguing experience—a WhatsApp phone call with a scammer!
It started like any other call because obviously I have sent out job applications and at such I may not remember the name of each organisation or it could even be a referral.
The conversation
Scammer: my name is Mr Emmanuel from global support outreach
Me: (with a calm voice) okay good afternoon sir
Scammer: we will be having a training this evening by 7:30pm, will you be free to join?
Me: Yes, sure send me a mail invite
Scammer: No, a code has been sent to your WhatsApp, call out the number
Me: I can't see any code, meanwhile I checked and a code had popped out.
Scammer: (tries to suggest possible numbers)
Me: Get out and leave my line( with a loud voice)
Scammer: (goes mute) and ends the call
Me: I reported him on WhatsApp and blocked the contact.
This experience was a reminder:
1. Stay vigilant:Scammers are becoming more sophisticated.
2. Verify before you trust: Always double-check unsolicited calls or messages.
3. Share your story: Educate others so they can recognize and avoid scams( obviously I had read or seen one or two similar scenarios hence I was enlightened)
Let's protect ourselves and our loved ones by spreading awareness. Have you had a similar experience? How did you handle it?
