  • I was indirectly introduced to Tech on this day 7 years ago.

This was my office where I was w0rking in a real estate company as an office assistant. This happened to be my first j0b after NYSC.

I go to work every morning, but it kinda seems like I was wasting away. There was hardly anything for me to do unless when land bùyers reached out to schedule an inspection. Other times, I had to think outside the box in order to do stuff that could benefit the company.

On this particular day, I was watching Nigeria IDol on YouTube and after watching an episode, an Indian guy video started playing and when I was trying to change it back to Nigeria Idol, I heard him say something about Cloud.

The concept caught my attention, and I decided to listen to what he was saying even though it was tough to understand him due to accent. I was kinda intrigued about what he said Cloud was about. My concept of cloud is when rain wants to fall.

Well, I listened to him and also subscribed to his channel on my phone and on the office TV. I didn't have a l@ptop then, so when I get home, I will use my phone to go back to his channel to check for new updates or watch old videos.

After about 2 months of consistently watching his videos, I was able to start making sense of all he was saying. I even started researching some of his terminologies and keywords.

Mind you, I actually studied literature in the university, and nothing concerned me with Tech. However, there was this peace I felt each time I was listening to this guy talk about Cloud.

As of then, my s@lary was 65 k, and due to the fact that the company rented an apartment for me, they were deducting a part of the rent from my monthly salary. So my take home was around 27 k monthly. Nothing on earth could afford me a lapt0p then.

I had a lapt0p that I used during university, but it was already in an unusable state, and I couldn't afford to repair it. All my 3arnings were basically for feeding and taking care of my siblings. The thing is, what can 27k even do for a family girl like me who lost her father a few months before.

Fast forward to 6 months later, I reached a class mate that works with Jobberman to help me look out for new jo0s as I felt my real estate j0b wasn't challenging enough.

This guy that hardly replies Facebook chats replied to my chats that I dropped around 3 am. immediately. I was kinda shocked because I wasn't even expecting his response. I only sent him chats at the heat of my midnight thoughts, just so I don't forget reaching him later.

I told him that I am open to new opportunities, but this time, I have been interested in w0rking in an IT industry since I was l3arning a ski11 then. He told me that they were h1ring for a Microsoft Third party company that was coming into the country, and they started hiring for them last month, and this week is their last batch of hiring.

I should send my cv for him to forward to the recruitment team since he's not recruiter himself. I sent my cv for the early hours, and a call from their recruiter was what woke me up the next morning.

I was invited for an interview the next day, and for the first time in my life, I felt so small. When I got to the Jobberman Elephant building, the kinda people that I saw that came for the interview was scary.

When I decided to talk to a few, I quickly realised that I was actually very small. These guys are computer engineers, computer scientists, and technical guys with years of working experience. We were up to 300, and the few ladies among us were actually doing well in Tech already.

I had no option but to sit down and be observing. A few moments later, the oyibo team from Microsoft announced that our first round of interviews will be starting soon. We eventually started, and after every stage, they will call the people who will be moved to the next and also call those who will go home.

This is how they moved me until the final interview stage. We had 5 stages on the same day. Guess what stood me out, guys... My knowledge of Cloud Computing. The products we were going to support were Microsoft Azure Cloud, and that was exactly what I was learning since 6 months before.

It was as if God and the universe were preparing me for such an opportunity. During my last stage of interview, the 2 oyibo people who interviewed me said that I was one of their best bet. They were impressed with the way I explained the concept of Cloud.

We also had a team project as part of our interview process. They grouped us into a group of 12 members and gave us a map with a story to discuss. They positioned one of their small oyibo member to watch what we were doing. I was the loudest during the group project, and I never knew that they were taking notes of those contributing to the project. I was just talking and talking.

So, during the last stage of our interview, the 2 interviewers said something about my contribution to the group project, how I was a team player, and other bla bla bla.

They shaaa told me that I would hear from them, and this is how my unplanned upski11ing got me into Microsoft and Tech generally. God took his time to prepare me for the opportunity.

This is why I keep saying that your life is better with as many ski11s as you can get. You might not know when it will come in handy. You might not know when it will bail you out.

Having known this miracle of learning, having experienced it and having enjoyed the benefits, I am surely the right person to spread the good news. I am actually running this evangelism very well.

In 5 years' time, Digital Witch will probably be controlling 50% Nigeria Fr33lancers. Like 50% of Fr33lancers you know might have been our stúd3nts.

Cheers to our days of little beginning. I am so beautiful here✨️

  • Names of people who are g@y continued…

While the rest of the world are having conversations about AI, Robotics and the future of energy, my people in Nigeria are occupied with a list of g@ys from gistlover blog.

So I thought I should contribute to the list. Here are interesting personalities who are also g@y:

    1. Tim Cook – CEO of Apple, one of the most influential figures in the tech industry.

    2. Ellen DeGeneres – Comedian, television host, and actress known for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
    3. Anderson Cooper – Journalist and anchor for CNN, known for his work on Anderson Cooper 360°.

    4. Laverne Cox – Actress and LGBTQ+ activist, famous for her role in Orange Is the New Black.

    5. Pete Buttigieg – U.S. Secretary of Transportation, former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and 2020 presidential candidate.

    6. Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir – Former Prime Minister of Iceland and the first openly g@y head of state.

    7. Elton John – Legendary musician and singer, known for his philanthropic work in HIV/AIDS awareness.

The difference between the above names and the names released by Gistlover is that the people listed here boldly IDENTIFIED as g@y - they don’t live in a hypocritical society.

While I am definitely Pro-Heterosexuality and do not support immoral s£xual behaviours, yet I am shocked that an entire generation of a youth populated nation is primarily occupied by gossips of who’s g@y and who’s not.

There are those who will still misunderstand this post so let me state the sole purpose of this post - I just want Nigerians to upgrade their national conversations on social media from who’s sleeping with who to who’s building what and with who. Instead of investigating someone’s s£x partner, why not use that time to study who’s their business partner. I took time to research who the Chinese partner Davido’s dad mentioned is and I found out.

Why should I care about the man’s s£xual partner when what I need to know is his business partner?

Why should I care about a g@y when I don’t know which company is getting listed next on the NSE?

The CEO of that iPhone in your hands is openly g@y…. While it doesn’t make it right but it just screams “mind your business” so you don’t Slav£ for people you consider immoral.

  • The NFF has debunked the news regarding Libya’s treatment earlier whilst they were in Nigeria.

"The Libyan team acted on their own (trying to cut costs) while in Nigeria, despite the NFF’s efforts to arrange their transportation from Port Harcourt to Uyo. Instead, they intentionally flew in from Libya without the NFF’s prior knowledge to Port Harcourt instead of Uyo.

It is unfortunate that people don’t take the time to get informed and still support the insane treatments currently affecting the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Libya.

If this can happen to footballers representing the country, imagine how a Nigerian citizen visiting Libya for work or staying there would be treated"

  • Check this out and let's have this conversation without bias...

    Nigeria has only 4 Billionaires...

    South Africa has 5 Billionaires

Nigeria has 9,800 Millionaires . This figure was once above 15,000 but significantly dropped due to the devaluation of the Naira.

South Africa has 37,800 Millionaires and the number is increasing because of economic stability.

The above figures are in USD....

Please do not argue these facts sentimentally... Do your own research.

The 9800 Millionaires in Nigeria are just louder than the massive 37,800 Millionaires in South Africa.

Like I said, these are facts....

Sometimes, a people may never EVOLVE until they are confronted with some painful truths...

Here's the difference between both countries...

Almost all the millionaires in South Africa do not own their houses and cars. Those big houses and cars are mostly owned by the bank.

But the millionaires in Nigeria own everything 100% and thus have free cash to spend without thinking about how to pay off the banks.

Again, financial data is not readily available in Nigeria. Most Nigerians do not have a proper calculation of their networth. While financial data is readily available in South Africa. Most banking applications have features of customer's networth.

In Nigeria, it's difficult to accurately track accurate value of property. Properties are over priced - and sometimes underpriced.
But in South Africa, it's easier to track value of Properties.

From the above, what do you conclude?

Share your honest and unbiased opinion.
